Red-Hot Memories
Boy did this bring back memories. Do you remember eating applesauce as a kid made with Red-Hot candies? That use to be my favorite kind of applesauce. I haven’t had applesauce this way in years but low and behold they had it in the hospital cafeteria of all places. I brought some up to my mother; she got a real kick out of it. Brought back some good memories for her as well, left her with a smile on her face.
Red-Hot Applesauce
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup water
12 medium apples (any variety)
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup red- hot candies
Wash, peel and core apples; cut into quarters. Slice into two or three pieces and place in saucepan. Add water; cover. Cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat; add red- hot candies and sugar. Stir until red- hot candies dissolve.

What are red hot candies
I was just thinking of this applesauce and low and behold, here it is. Thanks for the recipe! I'll be making this soon. Hmmm, Tomorrow maybe.
I have never heard of red hot applesauce. I would definitely try it out someday. Sounds like it would taste just like cinnamon applesauce except...spicier? Maybe stores will have it for Christmas time if I don't get around to making my own.
Like most of the others, I've not heard or sen red-hot candies..I assume they have some cinnamon in it, right?? would love to know how your recipe tasted!:) apples sound nice...
Hi Mansi, I emailed you a link about Red-Hot candies so you could find out more about them.
Yes Carla, spicier and a very pretty shade of redish pink.
You are very welcome Megan
Thank you HappyCook I sent you an email about red-hot candies.
Now here's a first! Very interesting...interestingly cool!
Thanks Chris, I just can't believe that I had forgotten about it.
My mother also made Red Hot Applesauce when I was growing up. Now I make it myself. If you don't have the time or the apples there is a shortcut to making it yourself with store bought applesauce. In a pan add 3 ounces of Red Hots to every 1/2 C of applesauce, heat over medium heat and stir until all the candies are melted.
Thank you anonymous, that is really good to know.
It's Christmas morning and I don't have any apples left and I was thinking of Christmas's past at Grandma Stickel's house.
There was always Red Hot Applesauce, she preserved it in jars and gave it out as gifts as well as having on the table.
I loved it.
Sure wish more apples had been on the grocery list for the MULTIPLE trips to the corner grocery store.
Merry Christma
Thank you Anonymous, such a nice memory.
